Darina Zavadilová is a journalist, curator and the woman behind the festival designSUPERMARKET. She initiated the project REDESIGN and together with designer and founder of webmagazine Designeast.eu Martin Žampach created a unique concept of exhibition, which was part of designSUPERMARKET and just closed its doors a few hours ago.
How was the project REDESIGN born?
Martin Žampach: We wanted to connect designSUPERMARKET festival with some interesting exhibition, so we followed this year’s visual identity and REDESIGN was born.
Darina Zavadilová: The first intention was to create a special task/theme for designers to work with, then we choose color instead of the theme and red was the obvious choice – it is very complicated color, not everything looks good in this tone. So it was also a challenge. We also could not afford to pay the designers, so instead of developing some new product we decided for redesigning the existing ones. The continuity of the color trend theme came by the way.
The festival just finished a few moments ago, do you already have some feedback/thoughts?
Martin Žampach: The feedback is great, it seems, that both designers and visitors liked the concept and also the installation.
Darina Zavadilová: I was surprised how the designers were ready for action. At the beginning it was practically an experiment, we didn’t know, what was going to happen. But we noticed a great feedback during designSUPERMARKET, also from the visitors. It turned out that red is very attractive color and thanks to red REDESIGN products we could also point on the diverse work of participated designers.
What is the future of REDESIGN exhibition?
Martin Žampach: If the exhibition would travel to other european cities, it would be really great. But it was possible to buy the REDESIGN pieces, so I guess many of them are already sold out.
Darina Zavadilová: We would like to have the REDESIGN exhibition in Bratislava soon and bring in more designers.
Do you already have some next project in your heads?
Martin Žampach: We don’t have any particular idea in our heads, but I’m sure something will be born very soon.
Darina Zavadilová: We will definitely continue in such a concept. Next theme will be completely different, but again challenging. Maybe we will focus on some particular product..
